  • En 1962, Th. S. Kuhn y P. Feyerabend introdujeron de modo independiente;el concepto de inconmensurabilidad en el ámbito de la filosofía de la ciencia. Aun cuando existen diferencias en sus planteamientos, ambos lo tomaron prestado de las matemáticas, donde significa “ausencia de una medida común”, y extendieron metafóricamente esta idea a la relación entre dos teorías científicas (sucesivas, alternativas o rivales) cuando, según ellos, no existe una medida común a ambas que permita compararlas directa y exactamente, afirmación que constituye la “tesis de la inconmensurabilidad”. Desde su introducción, dicha tesis constituyó el eje de apasionadas controversias, en las que Kuhn se vio involucrado siempre.
