El hallazgo no desvela si el genio inglés y el español se conocieron personalmente, pero evidencia que Shakespeare leyó con admiración la gran obra de Cervantes. Estrenada el 20 de mayo de 1613 y perdida posteriormente, la erudición y tesón investigador del hispanista Charles David Ley, hoy tristemente desaparecido, le permitieron descubrir esta joya olvidada y traducirla por primera vez al español. El editor José Esteban, amigo y confidente de David Ley durante la búsqueda del Cardenio, se ha hecho cargo de esta edición, que rescata la obra más cervantina del genio inglés.
