  • En esta "Vida de Cervantes", publicada en 1800, Juan Antonio Pellicer sumó a las informaciones que ya había publicado en 1778 cuantas pudo recopilar desde aquella época. Estas noticias, y los documentos inéditos que insertó por apéndice, dieron muchas luces sobre la vecindad de Cervantes en Esquivias y sus intereses domésticos; sobre su residencia en Sevilla desde 1595, y en Valladolid desde 1604, con los sucesos que le ocurrieron en esta ciudad cuando le involucraron en una causa criminal el año 1605; y sobre la numerosa familia que allí mantenía. La importancia de Pellicer como biógrafo de Cervantes reside en la incorporación de documentos novedosos y sugerentes hipótesis posteriormente confirmadas; sin embargo, también incluye otras opiniones ajenas a toda base sólida.
