  • LOS CORSARIOS BERBERISCOS de Lane-Poole es un libro clásico y el primero de importancia dedicado a historiar el apasionante y dramático asunto de la piratería berberisca, que durante más de tres siglos condicionó por entero la vida del Mediterráneo occidental y que alcanzó también a buena parte del Atlántico, llegando incluso hasta el Canal de la Mancha o la lejanísima Islandia. Nuestra edición reproduce los muy notables y hermosos dibujos de la edición original inglesa.;STANLEY LANE-POOLE (Londres, 1854-1931) fue un historiador y arqueólogo británico que dedicó casi toda su muy amplia obra a temas relacionados con el Islam, lo que en su tiempo se llamaba «orientalismo». Algunos de sus libros más importantes fueron: The People of Turky (1878), Social Life in Egypt: A Description of the Country & Its People (1884), Medieval India under Mohammedan Rule (1903) y Saladin and the Fall of the Kingdom of Jerusalem (1903). Publicó además, en francés, un volúmen sobre el Corán: Le Kuran, sa poésie et ses Lois (1882) y dos libros directamente relacionados con España, especialmente el primero de ellos, The Story of the Moors in Spain (1886) y The Barbary Corsairs (1890) que, a pesar de su interés, nunca fueron traducidos a nuestra lengua.
