  • La historia del proceso y condena de Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) continúa siendo un tema de actualidad. Juan Pablo II, siguiendo el surco del Concilio Vaticano II, quiso, en 1979, que teólogos e historiadores examinaran a fondo el caso Galileo. El resultado fue la creación de la Comisión de Estudio del Caso Galileo, dirigida, en su última etapa, por el cardenal Paul Poupard y clausurada solemnemente en el Vaticano en 1992. La presente obra reconstruye de manera minuciosa la trayectoria de dicha Comisión a partir de documentos de archivo y examina críticamente sus realizaciones. Con ello se ofrece a los investigadores un material inédito que permite valorar adecuadamente el intento del Vaticano por afrontar, crítica y serena-mente, su papel en el complejo caso Galileo, al tiempo que aporta nueva luz sobre su secular historia.
