En 1820, Walter Scott recupera al héroe medieval como secundario de lujo en su novela Ivanhoe. Desde entonces han proliferado las versiones modernas de las andanzas de Robin de los bosques. Las más destacadas son las adaptaciones de Howard Pyle (The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood of Great Renown in Nottinghamshire, 1883), de Roger Lancelyn Green (The adventures of Robin Hood, 1956) y de Paul Creswick (Robin Hood, and his adventures, 1903), versión que recoge la presente edición.
