Wells, Kafka, Pushkin, Bradbury, Kierkegaard o Poe, y trabajó para publicaciones como Squire, Vogue, The New Yorker o Playboy. Heredero natural de artistas gráficos como A.A. Milne, Sir John Tenniel o Gustave Doré, Edward Gorey fue capaz, no obstante, de labrarse un estilo gráfico y narrativo único e inconfundible, que ha dejado una profunda huella en la cultura popular, influyendo en cineastas como Tim Burton o Mark Romanek, o dibujantes como Lane Smith o Richard Sala.
