  • Asia Central sigue siendo prácticamente desconocida en Occidente y los libros de viaje escritos por mujeres, muy escasos. En 2007, Patricia Almarcegui, especialista en orientalismo y teoría del viaje, recorrió sola Uzbekistán y Kirguistán durante dos meses. Taskent, Samarcanda, Bujara, Jiva, Fergana, Osh, Biskek, Karakol…, nombres mágicos que invitan a proyectar sueños y deseos, además de evocar muchas otras cosas. Antes fueron Marruecos, Egipto, Siria, Líbano, Jordania, Túnez, Yemen e Irán. Durante años recorrió una línea imaginaria formada por los países de mayoría musulmana, para comprobar hasta qué punto los estereotipos forjados en torno a ellos coincidían con la realidad. Así, entre viajes y experiencias construyó su propio Oriente, un Oriente vivo y dinámico, pero en cierto modo también imaginario.
