  • JUAN CASIANO, teólogo y uno de los fundadores del monaquismo occidental, nació hacia el año 365 en al Escitia menor. Siendo aún muy joven, marchó a Belén y comenzó la vida monástica. Hacia el año 400 se retiró a Constantinopla, y allí Juan Crisóstomo le ordenó diácono. Vivió durante diez años en Roma, donde se ordenó sacerdote, y más tarde fue a Marsella, donde fundó dos monasterios. Murió hacia el año 435. Sus obras han ejercido una honda influencia en el pensamiento cristiano y en la formación de los grandes santos de la Iglesia.
