  • Luis de la Sierra nació en Santander en 1920. Se alistó como marinero voluntario a los diecisiete años. Embarcó en el crucero Almirante Cervera, donde permaneció hasta el final de la guerra civil. Luego pasó a la Escuela naval Militar de San Fernando y obtuvo el ascenso a alférez de navío en 1943. Como guardiamarina, y en los empleos de alférez de navío, teniente de navío y capitán de corbeta, ha navegado en los veleros Juan Sebastián Elcano?del que es segundo comandante? y Galatea, así como en cruceros, destructores, minadores, fragatas, patrulleros y dragaminas a través del Atlántico, el Pacífico y el Mediterráneo. Es especialista en armas submarinas y posee tres cruces del Mérito Naval.
