  • En 1908, la Kunsthalle de Bremen se convirtió en uno de los primeros museos alemanes en adquirir una obra importante de Édouard Manet (1832-1883): el Retrato de Zacharie Astruc de 1866. Esta pintura no sólo muestra una efigie de su amigo, el crítico, escritor y artista Zacharie Astruc, sino sus gustos y sus pasiones compartidas, representadas mediante los objetos reunidos en el cuadro. Además de las plumas y los libros de Astruc, encontramos un álbum de xilografías japonesas que alude al entusiasmo del momento por el arte japonés; la faja roja es un discreto guiño al amor de Astruc por España y por la pintura española; y el instrumento de cuerda que se ve al fondo lo identifica como compositor y músico.
