Mentre va funcionar, del juny del 1897 al juliol del 1903, va aconseguir projectar la seva aurèola de cau bohemi i bressol de genis locals i universals –Ramon Casas, Santiago Rusiñol, Pablo Picasso i el singular Pere Romeu en són alguns dels més destacats–, que ha arribat fins als nostres dies.Hi ha, però, un episodi no gaire conegut que va contribuir decisivament a perpetuar-ne la memòria viva: l’heroica reobertura del local del carrer Montsió el 1978.
