Ambientada en Rusia durante una supuesta Tercera Guerra Mundial, narra las tribulaciones de una escuadra militar que es enviada al frente. Estrenada en 1953, y celebrada de inmediato, Escuadra hacia la muerte es señalada, acusada de antimilitarismo por el Alto Estado Mayor del Ejército español, y prohibida, aunque esto no impidió que en los años más duros de la dictadura fuera representada cientos de veces.
