La extrañeza que califica a las primeras se deriva de las expresiones que se profieren después de leerlas -íqué bonito!, íqué horror!, íno lo entiendo!...-, y sobre todo que el autor no tiene noticias de que hayan sucedido en parte alguna -carencia que no implica, necesariamente, certeza-. El alivio atribuido a los poemas pretende mitigar el desasosiego que pueda ocasionar la lectura de las historias, aunque conviene excluir de la citada atribución a los poemas primero y último. El primero porque solo aspira a calentar la lectura del libro, el último porque solo intenta reírse de algo muy serio.
