  • Una familia de molineros que habita en la sierra de Córdoba es asaltada y cautivada por guerreros norteafricanos que están al servicio del sultán de Granada aprovechando el derrocamiento del emir Muhammad V. El hijo del molinero, Fadrique, que profesa en el monasterio franciscano de Santo Toribio de Liébana, recibe la terrible noticia y solicita su secularización para poder retornar a Andalucía y buscar la manera de sacar a sus progenitores y a su joven hermana Almodis del cautiverio. Entonces retorna a Córdoba y decide emprender la búsqueda de su hermana que, sabe, fue regalada al nuevo sultán Ismail II.
