  • En 1986 el autor embarcó como único periodista en la primera expedición científico-pesquera española a la Antártida, aventura que abriría a España las puertas del Tratado Antártico. Treinta años después, Valentín Carrera regresa a bordo de los buques Sarmiento de Gamboa y Hespérides, en la que sería la expedición número 30, auspiciada por el Comité Polar Español. Cinco meses, entre noviembre de 2016 y marzo de 2017, en que cruzó seis veces el Paso de Drake, y visitó las Islas del Rey Jorge, Decepción, Livingstone, de la Media Luna y numerosos lugares del Continente Antártico.
