Aquesta obra examina la labor que va dur a terme com a lloctinent del rei d’Aragó —el seu nebot, Pere el Cerimoniós— al regne de València durant la guerra de Castella, també coneguda com dels dos Peres (1356-1366). A partir de fonts arxivístiques inèdites, analitza l’acció de govern de l’infant mentre defensava el regne dels atacs de Pere el Cruel entre el 1356 i el 1358, així com la influència que aquesta experiència podria haver tingut en la seva gran obra, el Tractatus de vita, moribus et regimine principum.
