  • Un proyecto como este es algo excepcional, sin equivalentes antes ni después: una pareja casada de fotógrafos publican autorretratos muy personales, incluso íntimos, y retratos mutuos tomados durante décadas, y complementa esas fotografías privadas con imágenes de personajes y celebridades de la jet-set. En 1998, Helmut y June Newton publicaron su legendario proyecto conjunto Us and Them en forma de libro y también en exposiciones complementarias. La primera parte de Us and Them, una historia incomparable de cincuenta y cinco años de convivencia y amor, nos ofrece una visión de la vida privada de los fotógrafos.Es una especie de diario fotográfico que documenta la vida que compartieron Helmut y June Newton por medio de las instantáneas que tomaron el uno del otro. También hay fotografías de actores, artistas y figuras importantes de la cultura de la época, como Brassaï y Peter Beard, Yves Saint Laurent y Thierry Mugler o Jane Birkin y Charlotte Rampling. Los retratos que Helmut y June Newton tomaron en distintos momentos se presentan en parejas y nos revelan dos facetas de una misma personalidad. Esta publicación cierra así distintos círculos, porque la vida y la obra de Helmut y June Newton estuvieron vinculadas de varias maneras. Uno no fue posible sin el otro, y viceversa.Exposición complementaria:Alice Springs. La retrospectiva de Berlín se cierra con dípticos yuxtapuestos con retratos de Helmut Newton y Alice Springs, también de Us and Them.
