  • 1929 unternahmen die vier deutschen Wissenschaftler Fritz Loewe, Johannes Georgi, Ernst Sorge und Alfred Wegener eine Vorexpedition nach Grönland, die dem Erkunden von Aufstiegsmöglichkeiten aufs Inlandeis, der Erprobung von wissenschaftlichen Meßgeräten, dem Vertrautwerden mit Hundeschlitten sowie mit den topographischen Gegebenheiten Grönlands dienen sollte. 1930/31 erfolgte dann die eigentliche große deutsche Grönland-Expedition, in deren Verlauf Alfred Wegener tragischerweise sein Leben verlor. Dieser Expeditionsbericht ist von allen Grönland-Aufzeichnungen Wegeners der anschaulichste und spannendste, der am unterhaltsamsten geschriebene. Er ist damit für den interessierten Leser der ideale Einstieg in die eisige Welt Grönlands, die Alfred Wegener so faszinierte.
